The way he would adjust his tobacco in his lip just very subtly. TK: One of the big ones in the first trailer that was released is when he is on the sniper rifle, he had a snuff before he had to make a big decision. WDL: When you say small details that people who knew Chris would pick up, what exactly would some of those be? I think that even says more about his character and what he put into it that he could have gotten away with doing far less, but he didn’t. He got the smallest details that the people that knew him (Chris) best would pick up on that nobody else would. His mannerisms, he studied every video that we have. He said that Chris was the first voice that he heard every morning when he woke up and the last one that he went to sleep at night. He took it on with all of his heart and with care and concern. I feel like there is no going back on how great he is after watching him do this. He has proven already that he can play so many different emotions and so many different types of people. I really feel like Bradley had such tremendous talent. WDL: What are your thoughts on actor Bradley Cooper playing the role of Chris? Was he a really good fit for the role? TK: I can’t image anyone better. The details that were after the book as far as getting into the lifestyle, the things that he used to love to do - wearing his suits again, and all that stuff. Or the way he loved being a cowboy and how he hoped to get back to that. Chris didn’t yell at me - how he would look, his tone of voice - he was a man of few words, and you could tell a lot by the way that he looked at something. Then just details of Chris that you don’t get from writing, but you would definitely see on screen. I think they wanted more of the love story background to see how they would fit that in. He wanted to know more about the love story. WDL: In that process, did Jason Paul work to get the small details that might not have been able to be communicated in the book? He ended up being part counselor and part friend, and part writer through it all. We just worked hundreds of hours on stories and details and all of that. For a few days after Chris’ funeral, I started working with the writer Jason Paul. Waxahachie Daily Light: We wanted to know what your role was in the filming process. Here’s an exclusive look at what it was like for Taya to see her husband’s book become a motion picture: Chris and Chad Littlefield lost their lives in 2013 trying to help a fellow veteran. Chris was from Midlothian, and his family still has ties to the city to this day.Īfter retiring from the military, Chris wrote the book “American Sniper” about his life before, during and after his time in the military. Navy Seal considered to be the most lethal sniper in U.S. Taya is the widow of Chris Kyle, who was the U.S. With the opening of “American Sniper” on Thursday, the Waxahachie Daily Light had the opportunity to talk with Taya Kyle about the upcoming film.
